Doug Marks
Executive Vice PresidentDoug Marks’ career spans more than three decades of hand-on experience in the hospitality industry, covering every position of hotel and resort operations. Doug joined the SUN to serve as a Regional Vice President of Operations with the vision that exceeding the expectations of guests, employees as well as the ownership was critical to being truly successful. With the acceleration of new development, Doug assumed responsibility for the newly created position of VP of New Development to oversee the preparation and opening of new hotels. In this current position as Executive Vice President, he will oversee Corporate Strategies/Acquisitions/Dispositions. In the past three and a half years, Doug has been responsible for opening 13 hotels in six state from coast to coast and two additional properties opening in the Spring of 2011. He is also responsible for the operations of the Embassy Suites Palmdale, CA ranked in the top 5 within the brand and the Hampton Inn & Suites Riverside, CA ranked 15th out of 1838 brand properties.
Doug has experience with Preferred Hotels and Resorts, Marriott, Hilton, Starwood, Intercontinental Hotels, Choice and various upscale independent operations. Prior to his current position, he served in a variety of roles including the management of a diverse portfolio of 19 properties throughout the Eastern U.S., overseeing the opening and development of an exclusive Vermont resort, responsibility for five condominium resorts in the Carolinas as well as serving on the management team for the opening of Kiawah Island Resort, a 10,000-acre ocean front resort off the coast off the coast of Charleston, SC.
Professional service has included the Board of Directors, Orlando Hotel and Motel Association; Condominium Committee, AH&LA; Executive Committee, Board of Directors of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce: Board of Directors, Myrtle Beach Hotel and Motel Association and the South Carolina Hotel and Motel Association; Chairman, Myrtle Beach Convention Bureau; Education Institutes Advisory and Program Committees; Rotary International, and the United Way Drive Division Chairman.
